COMPTON—The Compton Initiative will be back in Compton on January 25 and is seeking volunteers to help beautify 20 sites in the city.
The Compton Initiative is a non-profit organization founded in 2006 after Compton had reached its highest murder rate in ten years and ranked among the most dangerous cities in the United States.
The city was known around the world for its images of gang violence, social disorder and urban blight.
Starting with a small group of volunteers, the group connected with community leaders and residents who were ready for change.
The Compton Initiative is now comprised of thousands of local community members of all ages and backgrounds who bring hope and restoration to the city of Compton through year-round beatification projects. To date, it has created nearly 135 murals and beautified nearly 1,000 homes, school buildings, churches, parks, and medical clinics across the city.
The group offers community organizations, service groups and non-profits an opportunity to make a sustainable impact in Compton by instilling a sense of care and pride within each neighborhood.
To date, it has created nearly 135 murals and beautified nearly 1,000 homes, school buildings, churches, parks, and medical clinics across the city.
