Last week, on September 13, 2018, during the League of California Cities Annual Conference, the Institute for Local Government awarded the City of Carson the 2018 Silver Beacon Award and the Spotlight Award in the Sustainability Best Practices for the following environmental achievements: 17% Community Greenhouse Gas Reductions; 26% Agency Greenhouse Gas Reductions; and 9% Energy Savings.

“We are honored to receive the 2018 Beacon Award as we continuously strive to improve our environment and reduce our carbon footprint and amount of greenhouse gas emissions. We are proud to provide a sustainable future for our residents and future generations in Carson and the entire region as the environment does not recognize city, county, state or country boundaries,” said Carson’s Mayor Albert Robles. "We all call Earth home and should treat it like home."

For more than ten years, the Beacon Program has encouraged, supported and recognized voluntary action by local governments throughout California to address climate change, promote energy innovation to create more sustainable communities. It is the dedication and innovation of local government such as Carson that is making a difference.
